  In 1987 Rosa Maria Esteva and Tomas Tarruella, mother and son, founded El Mordisco, a restaurant that offered an innovative concept in the whole dining experience as in the direction of the dishes that where offered. It quickly became a reference in Barcelona. Its great success served as inspiration to continue expanding the business little by little with other restaurants, each one conceived independently and planned with the greatest care. After Mordisco there came Tragaluz (1991), Tragamar (1996), Agua (1997), Acontraluz (1997), Negro and El Japonés (1999), El Principal (2000) and Bestial (2002).
In 2003, a new phase was initiated: the hotel OMM, whose wide culinary scope alongside its leisure activities with a relaxed and cosmopolitan ambiance created from the start, a point of reference in the city not only as a meeting place for visitors but also for Barcelonas´ residents. After Hotel OMM their came more restaurants: Rojo (2005), Cuines Santa Caterina (2005), Bar Lobo (2006), La Xina (2008), Komomoto y Bar Tomate (2009).

In that manner, guided by their instinct, Rosa Maria and Tomas have built step by step and with the support of their team, a solid entrepreneurial business that continues to innovate with its unique formula. A project that has refreshed the restaurant panorama in Barcelona and that now starts to extend itself to other points of the Spanish territory.

  Each one of the group’s proposals has its own character, brought about by a measured equilibrium between gastronomy and the design of each space. The cuisine is highly creative but founded on traditional methods and always developed with quality ingredients. Along the same lines, Sandra Tarruella, responsible for the interior design, has always sought to create unique and warm atmospheres that help to turn the act of eating into a pleasurable and meaningful social act.
The experience of Rosa Maria Esteva and the adventurous spirit of Tomas Tarruella contribute an ample vision to the initiative, making each restaurant a singular and charismatic establishment. The implication, passion and continuous persistence of the people that form part of the group has been another key factor that explains why the restaurants of Grupo Tragaluz have always been well received, it is also the reason that maintains alive the illusion for constantly developing new projects.
